I was approached by a friend at Discovery Coffee to do anart display at their Oak Bay location in Victoria, BC. After some thought, I decided to do a series of mug & teacup illustrations. As you look at them you can imagine what type of delicious beverage each cup could hold. To some, the mug choice is just as important as the drink choice.

The Prints

These prints were on display from September to October in 2022 at Discovery Coffee Oak Bay. They were printed on 100% recycled Canadian paper at Elite Printers in Nanaimo, BC.

For those interested in the process:

I started the process by sketching some ideas in my sketchbook. Then, I went into Photoshop with my Wacom pen and began sketching with inky brushes (pictured below). I like to do this if I’m going to be doing detailed vector illustrations later. I can sketch in the line weights and give myself a clear guide for the final artwork. I then bring them into Adobe Illustrator and use them as a guide to render them out with the pen tool. The last step was choosing a colour palette to bring the whole series together. The colours are warm and muted like September golden hour.
